Connecting Cybersecurity Expertise – 11 EU-Funded Projects Meet in Athens

October 8, 2026

Cybersecurity challenges rarely exist in isolation. Regulatory requirements, organisational preparedness and incident response capabilities are closely connected, making collaboration and knowledge exchange increasingly important for strengthening Europe's digital resilience.

This was the starting point for Building Cyber Resilience in the Digital Era, a joint event organised by the EU-funded projects DETANGLE, CRACoWi and INCIDENTRON on 2 October 2026 in Athens, Greece.

The event gathered more than 40 participants and representatives of 11 EU-funded projects, creating an opportunity to exchange knowledge, share experiences and explore collaboration across different areas of cybersecurity.

Dr. Siranush Akarmazyan (ITML) opened the event, introducing a day dedicated to connecting expertise and addressing common challenges within the European cybersecurity ecosystem.

Different Projects, Shared Cybersecurity Challenges

The workshop brought together 11 European initiatives: DETANGLE, CRACoWi, INCIDENTRON, OSCRAT, SONIC, CURIUM, WEM Cyber, CYBERFORT, CyberSynchrony, APPtake and TrustBoost.

The discussions focused on three key areas shaping Europe's cybersecurity landscape: NIS2, the Cyber Resilience Act and cross-border cybersecurity incident response.

Although these areas address different aspects of cybersecurity, they share a common objective: strengthening the ability of organisations to prevent, prepare for and respond to cybersecurity risks while meeting evolving European requirements.

By bringing together projects working across these topics, the event created space to exchange perspectives, explore connections between different approaches and consider how European initiatives can complement one another.

Cyber Resilience Goes Beyond Regulatory Compliance

A key message emerging from the event was that building digital resilience requires more than compliance. It requires continuous collaboration, preparedness and action.

European cybersecurity regulations provide an important framework for improving security, but organisations must also understand how requirements translate into their everyday activities, responsibilities and processes.

This is particularly relevant in an environment where different regulatory frameworks and cybersecurity obligations may affect the same organisation.

For DETANGLE, the event provided an opportunity to engage with the wider cybersecurity community and contribute to discussions connecting regulatory requirements with practical cybersecurity challenges.

Building digital resilience requires more than compliance.

The exchange also reinforced the importance of making knowledge accessible and strengthening cooperation between initiatives addressing related aspects of cybersecurity.

Collaboration as a Foundation for Cyber Resilience

One of the main outcomes of the Athens event was the opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the participating EU-funded projects.

Bringing together different areas of expertise around common challenges supports knowledge exchange, helps identify complementary activities and creates opportunities for further cooperation.

Rather than approaching cybersecurity challenges solely from the perspective of individual projects or regulations, the workshop encouraged a broader view of how European initiatives can contribute collectively to strengthening cyber resilience.

This reflects the central ambition of the event: turning regulation into action, compliance into resilience, and shared challenges into opportunities for collaboration.

DETANGLE thanks the co-organising projects CRACoWi and INCIDENTRON, all participating initiatives, speakers and the more than 40 participants who contributed to the discussions.

The Athens workshop demonstrated the value of bringing different cybersecurity perspectives together, and we look forward to continuing this cooperation as the projects progress.
